It's an unusual sight in a desert to see yaks. But this was an unusual location, these usually high altitude-dwelling, shaggy coated animals were living in the "Ice Canyon" deep in the Gobi.

The ambient temperature of this place is so low that it is encased in metres of thick ice for most of the year.

As soon as we entered the canyon, we felt the temperature plummet and rounding a corner were surprised by these yaks.
